Las Vegas SX Race Report - Seely 9th

Troy Lee Designs’ Cole Seely Collects His 13th Top-10 Finish of the Season

Las Vegas (May 7, 2016) – Troy Lee Designs rider Cole Seely and the entire supercross field endured the harshest conditions of the season as Sam Boyd Stadium hosted the final event of the season. The skies didn’t cooperate and opened up as the track was flooded with rain and hail in the afternoon. Seely didn’t let a mid-pack start stop him from finishing inside the top 10, collecting ninth in the final race of the season. Seely, who recently came back from an injury, made his way to the Main Event through the semi race. After getting the extra track time, Seely started the final race of the night in 15th. He rode steady as the conditions continued to deteriorate and eventually broke into the top 10, crossing the finish line in ninth. “I didn’t have a great start to the night with a vision issue in the heat, but we got it figured out for the main event,” said Seely. “It’s not too fun coming through the pack during a race like this, but I didn’t want to give up and battled to make it into the top 10. Hopefully we can enjoy some nice weather in the coming weeks as we put our focus on outdoors.” The KTM Junior Supercross Challenge riders didn’t get to tackle the main sections of the track due to the weather, but still had a fun time out there. And not only did they overcome extreme conditions, but they also did it in style while decked out in Troy Lee Designs GP Air Youth Starburst Flo Orange Racewear with Youth Air Glove. Jamison Mutschler took the final win of the season, while John Fish and Elias Ehrenhoter joined him on the podium. As the Monster Energy Supercross comes to a close, the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series will be getting underway in two weeks at Hangtown MX outside Sacramento, California. Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM Riders Survive Mother-Nature Torn Supercross Finale

Las Vegas (May 8, 2016) – What started off as a nice day turned into a rider’s worst nightmare when the teams pitted at the supercross finale at Sam Boyd Stadium were greeted with torrential rain and hail, leaving a once well-groomed track a muddy mess. With the laps cut down due to an extremely deteriorating track, Mitchell Oldenburg scored 12th, while Shane McElrath finished 17th. In a refreshed format for the 250 riders at the finale, east and west would race in the same main event, vying for valuable points. Oldenburg wasn’t able to get out to the start he wanted, but after coming across the first lap in 16th, he put in steady laps to finish the night in 12th. “This was a super tough race and I just did my best to keep it on two wheels,” said Oldenburg. “I’m glad it’s over and really looking forward to starting fresh when we line up for the first motocross race in two weeks.” It wasn’t McElrath’s night but he still showcased his never-give-up attitude while tackling the brutal Las Vegas track. He came across the opening lap in 20th and despite the distance between him and the next riders; he eventually was able to make it up to 17th. With the final supercross race in the books, the team turns its attention to the Pro Motocross Series that will celebrate its season opener in two weeks outside Sacramento, California. This should also mark the return of Jessy Nelson, who was injured early in the season.
